William was the son of John Clough Leatherbarrow Born Liverpool 1857 and Fanny Whitteron Born Manchester 1861, they married at Halifax in 1882.
John and Fanny also had another son who also gave his life in the war:
Private Edmund Leatherbarrow Service Number 16590 18th Bn The Kings Liverpool Regiment, Born Manchester Aged 32, gave his life on the 1st July 1916. Edmund lies where he fell to this day and is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial. The CWGC shows the following details regarding Edmund:
"(served as LEATHER). Son of John Clough Leatherbarrow and Fannie Leatherbarrow, of Rycroft, Lidgett Lane, Roundhay, Leeds."
William also had sisters Ellen, Ida and Mabel.
Wilfred Left Leeds Boys Modern to work as an apprentice at a drapers firm. And in 1914 he enlisted into the 9th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment.
He was sent to Gallipoli as part of the 29th division and was badly wounded and placed on board an Hospital ship where he lost his life to wounds recieved, Wilfred was reported at the time to have been buried at sea.
