Wilfred left school to work in his fathers business, in August 1914 at the outbreak of war Wilfred tried several times to enlist but was rejected on medical grounds.
In February 1916 he was succesfull enlisting into the 9th Bn Manchester Regiment. In March 1917 Wilfred was sent to france and attached to B Company of the 18th Bn Manchester Regiment.
Sadly Wilfred lost his life three days after his birthday on the 23rd April 1917 near Arras, and is remebered on the memorial to the missing there.
The CWGC shows the following details:
"Son of J. B. Grice, of Wilton Hotel, Manchester Rd., Denton, Manchester, and the late Mrs. Grice".
