THOMAS LIES AT PEACE IN THE DARTMOOR CEMETERY, AT BECORDEL-BECOURT 2.5 KM SOUTH EAST OF ALBERT FRANCE.
Thomas was the son of William Herbert Born Ashbourne Derbyshire 1860 and Dinah Waterworth Born Ganton North Yorkshire 1864, they married at Ganton in 1890. They also had another son by the name of John William Born Ganton 1894.
Thomas had joined the Leeds Boys Modern after obtaining a West Riding School Scholership, he passed his Kings Scholership in 1911 and attended Leeds City Training College leaving in 1914 to begin a career of teaching.
Thomas joined the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, going to France at the beginning of 1916, it was reported at the time that he had lost his life on the 1st July 1916, however Thomas survived on carried on fighting passing away in the September of that year.
A memorial service was held for Thomas at AdelChurch near Leeds where Thomas had been a Choir Boy conducted by Canon Draper, the service was attended by the Leeds Boys Modern Cadet Force and the Schools Scout Troup.
