Percy was the son of Thomas a Bookeeper in a woollen mill Born leeds 1852 and Grace Hunter Born Malton Yorkshire 1852 who married at Leeds in 1884.
Percy left Leeds Modern to work as a bank clerk, and in 1912 joined the regular army, enlisting into the 2nd Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers.
Percy was sent to India in 1913 and saw service at Amballa, Subatha. At the end of 1914 Percy's Regiment were called back to Europe arrived in England in December 1914, being sent to France in January 1915.
On the 20th February 1915 Percy took part in a baynot charge on the German defences Percy was badly wounded being shot through his right shoulder, and was sent to hospital in England.
Percy spent over four months in hospitals in both Lincoln and Horncastle before returning to France in June 1915, being posted to the 1st Battalion.
Percy lost his life in the Trenches at Henin near Lens France on the 23rd March 1918 it was reported that:
"his Battalion had fought at close quarters against great odds, and kept the enemy at bay for more than two hours."

"Son of the late Thomas Kettlewell, of The Mount, Armley, Leeds. Came from India with 2nd Bn. Dec., 1914, proceeded to France Jan 1915"
