Laurence was the son of Albert Born Bradford 1865 and Hannah Mary Armitage Born Saltaire near Shipley 1871 who married in Bradford 1888.
Laurence went into the clothing trade after leaving Leeds Boys Modern and moved to London working for Colletts Limited.
In September 1914 he joined the 10th Lincolns and during training was promoted to Sergeant.
Laurence was posted to France in January 1916 and on the opening day of the Battle for Albert was wounded near La Boiselle.
Laurence was brought back to England to the military Hospital in Northampton and had his leg amputated soon after arriving there, Laurence passed away on the 16th July 1916 and was brought back to Leeds where he now rests in peace.
