It was reported John was one of the oldest boys from Leeds Boys Modern to give his life in the Great War.
John had left the school in 1891 to join his fathers firm, which fitted shops throughout West Yorkshire and was a regular player for the old boys union football team and was also a member of the Headingley Football Club known today as Leeds rugby League club.
John married Kate Leach (Born Hunslet Leeds 1880) in 1901 and on the census for that year both John and Kate are visiting Winchester could this have been their honeymoon ?.
He enlisted into the Fusiliers in March 1916 and after training was sent to France, he was reported missing on the 7th October 1917 and lies to this day where he fell.
Son of the late John William Curtis, of Leeds; husband of Kate Curtis, of 4, Hereford Rd., Harrogate.
