John was the son of John William Born Horsforth near Leeds 1857 and Edith Margaret Minikin Born Leeds 1868, they married at Horsforth in 1894.
John left Leeds Boys Modern and worked in the Banking trade at the London Joint Stock Bank on Kirkstall road Leeds and in the City centre in Kirkgate Leeds.
He regularly attended church attending the Horsforth Grove Wesleyan Church, and in 1915 he joined the Royal Garrison Artillery, and was posted to France in May 1916.
John was injured and sent to one of Two French clearing station's on a crossroads near Etinehem which was shelled on the 25th July 1916 and John lies in peace at Etinehem Cemetery France.
