John was born in the parish of St Martins Leeds, he was the son of Arthur Reginald and Mary Susanna who resided at No 14 Spencer Place Chapletown Leeds.
John had left Leeds Modern and found employment at T.Collier & Co in Manchester. At the outbreak of war he enlisted into the 2nd Bn Manchester City Battalion.
After training in Heaton Park, Grantham and at Salisbury Plain, John went to France in November 1915, and gave his life two months later 13 kms South East of Albert in the Somme Region.
