James was the son of Henry Herron Hall and Beatrice Sinclair Thomson who had married at Chorley in 1892.
James left Leeds Modern when his parents moved to shipoley and on finishing school james joined the Union of London and smiths bank.
In september 1914 James enlisted into the 15th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment Leeds Pals, and after two and half years whilst serving as a Corporal he was promoted and sent to a Cadet school.
In April 1917 he was given a commision in the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry.
James had been in france two weeks with his new Regiment when he was wounded and taken behind the lines to the mass of Hospitals at Etaples near Bolougne where he passed away from wounds recieved.
The CWGC shows the following details.
"Son of the late Henry Herron Hall and Beatrice Sinclair Hall, of Hollin House, Moorhead, Shipley, Yorks. Born at Manchester."
