Ernest was Born on the 12th December 1876 and his parents lived at Valley house, Roundhay, Leeds. His father Frederick was Born in 1850 at Dewsbury and worked has a painter and stationer, his mother Emma was also Born in Dewsbury in 1851.
Ernest left Leeds Modern and became a land surveyor after working in a Bank as a loan manager.
He origannily joined the Royal Field Artillery being given the service number 217400 before being transferred to the Tank Corps in 1917.
Ernest was due to join his Corps in France after having leave in the summer of 1917 , however he contracted Pneunonia (more than likely Spanish Flu which unbeknown to the Doctors was already spreading ) and lost his life on December 17th 1917 at Chapel Allerton Hospital in Leeds, leaving a wife Agnes Daisy and two children.
