The CWGC shows the following details:
"Son of George and Lillie Firth, of Upper Nab House, Staveley Rd., Shipley. Born at Bradford."
Edwin was the son of George Born Bingley 1872 and Ada Stephenson Born 1873 in Shipley near Bradford.
After leaving school Edwin joined a business in Bradford then entered his fathers company of printers. In September 1914 Edwin joined the Royal army mewdical Corps, and was promoted to lance Corporal in June 1915.
He was recommended for a commision in December 1915 and joined the 1/8th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment Leeds Rifles. Edwin was drafted to France in July 1916, and was wounded on the 3rd of September 1916, after recovering Edwin returned to France in January 1917.
Edwin was badley gassed at Nieuport Belgium on the 22nd July 1917, he was blinded and suffered badly from the mustard gas on his lungs.
Edwin returned home and after two operations on his lungs Edwin passed away and was layed to rest in Shipley, it was reported that his funeral was attended by a party from his Regimental depot and the Leeds Boys Modern Cadet Corps.
