Betrand was the son of William principle at Springwood high School, whwen that school closed Bertram attended Leeds Boys Modern.
After leaving School he went into business and thn emigratyed to Canada working as a Railway Mail Clerk, and married Edith.
On the 24th September 1914 Bertrand joined the Canadian Expiditionary Force enlisting in Valcartier Quebec.
At his medical he was described as being 5ft 7.5 inches tall a ruddy complexion with a chest size of 37 inches. Bertrand was also described as having Brown Eyes and Dark Hair.
Bertrand was promoted to the rank of Corporal and lost hius life on the 24th May 1915 he lays where he fell to this day.

"Son of William and Nancy Greenhalgh; husband of Edith K. Greenhalgh, of Keota, Iowa, U.S.A."
