Arthur was the son of Stephen a tailor by profession Born Bramley Leeds 1854 and Emma Born Easington Yorkshire, and had a Brother Harry Mirtforth Dawson who was a lecturer in Physical Chemistry, at Leeds University.
Arthur worked as a Commercial Traveller until 1904 when he emigrated to Canada working has a Sign Writer.
On July 22nd 1915 Arthur joined the Canadian Expiditionary Force in Montreal, having served two years previousley in the Army.
At his medical Arthur was described as being 5ft 8 inches with a fair complexion,fair hair blue eyes and a chest measurment of 37 inches. It was also mentioned that Arthur had suffered from varicose veins and had scars on his thighs to prove this.
He trained in Canada and came to England in early 1916 training at Salisbury, being sent to France in February 1916.
It was reported at the time that Arthur had lost his life near Courcelette North-East of Albert in the Somme region of France on the 18th of September 1916, however Arthurs body was not recovered and as a result he is remembered on the Vimy Ridge Memorial.
