Alfred was the son of Alfred a Railway Building Contractors Agent Born Sleaford Lincolnshire 1853 and Mary Born Ireland 1868.
After leaving Leeds Boys Modern Alfred worked for the Leeds City education Committee. And in September 1914 at Leeds Town Hall Alfred enlisted into the Leeds Pals the 15th Bn West Yorkshire Regiment.
After training in Colsterdale and Salisbury Alfred went with his Battalion to Egypt and then into France, Alfred went over the top at 07.30 with the other brave men from Leeds on Saturday the 1st July 1916 and his parents recevied word that he had been hit by a machine gun bullet.
The CWGC gives the following information.:
"Son of Alfred and Mary R. Kirk, of Woodvale, Ashley. New Mikon, Hants."
