Alfred was born in Leeds the son of Alfred Born Newington London 1854 and Esther Born Manchester 1855. After leaving school Alfred worked for the London Joint Stock Bank at Wath-on Dearne and in Leeds.
He went to Canada in 1912 to Vancouver to work for the Canadian Bank. In early 1914 Arnold returned to Leeds to qualify as an incorperated accountant.
He enlisted in Leeds shortley after war was declared and after training in York and Gainsborough went to France in 1915. He was promoted to Corporal in the Scout section of his unit and it was reported that he was severly wounded on the 15th of July 1916 whilst his battalion was repelling a German bombing attack.
Alfred passed away the next day from wounds recieved in the battle whilst at one of the Field Hospitals in the village of Forceville, he lies at peace in the Forceville Communal Cemetery and Extension.
